Pylon protection

Building on its experience in the combination of composite materials and metals (COM – MET), COMMET Group has developed an innovative cowling technology that protects pylons against acts of vandalism (Molotov cocktails, burning tires, etc.). This solution has been designed to ensure the cowl's resistance to mechanical attacks as well as to any attempted arson. Its double casing and self-ventilation technology also provides natural heat dissipation even during normal use and prevents cable overheating in case of prolonged UV exposure.

Pylon protection

Description

This solution employs fire-resistant materials (calcium silicate as recommended by CNER) while ensuring natural ventilation of the cables and allowing for the electrothermal dissipation of the live line.

This COMMET solution was designed with

  • An innovative self-ventilation system for the cables as well as the external wall of the enclosure. This solution deployed by the COMMET Group for other applications (self-ventilated building facades) has proven itself significantly and provides a real thermal advantage beyond fire protection (air film, reflective thermal coating, lightweight materials, mechanical embedding of the insulation in a cassette that requires no gluing, overall sealing that maintains the insulation's properties over time, etc.).

  • A flame stop base that prevents any fire propagation to the back of the enclosure. A Molotov cocktail projection at the base of the enclosures will not be able to spread directly or indirectly to the cables.

  • A system of self-supporting half enclosures. The assembly of these enclosures is particularly made easier by the fact that the insulation is completely factory-integrated between two perforated walls, ensuring its mechanical stability during all phases of transport, assembly, and throughout the product's life.

  • A composite bi-material cover for the whole system (material already used for HTB3 line cowls certified by CNER), allowing perfect adaptation around the cables and optimal thermal performance (no thermal inertia, no snow accumulation, etc.).

The other advantages of such a solution include:

  • Research and manufacturing within record deadlines at our production site in Moselle (France)
  • No maintenance required
  • Quick and limited potential repair costs

Custom solutions on-site or based on plans

Depending on the situation (existing pylons or pylons to be constructed), our design office will propose the most suitable solution for your needs. The configurations for underground-aerial cable risers are varied, both in height (generally 4/5 meters or 6/7 meters) and in width (single or double riser).
